Growth & Expansion
Central Ohio’s big four systems race to build
Ohio State, OhioHealth, Mount Carmel, and Nationwide Children’s are on a multi-billion-dollar building spree to keep pace with population growth and demand. Highlights include Ohio State’s ~$2B, 820-bed tower (opened 2025), OhioHealth’s $600M Women’s Health Center (due 2027) plus Pickerington hospital and dozens of sites, Mount Carmel’s new $273M Dublin Hospital, and Children’s regional satellites plus $179M ortho/surgery center. Proponents cite access and future needs; skeptics question costs and competition in an already concentrated market.
Leadership & Operations
OhioHealth leader departs for Wilson Health role
Jim Whitaker, BSN, RN, is leaving OhioHealth after 23 years — most recently as senior adviser of operations at critical access Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton — to become vice president of operations at Wilson Health in Sidney. He started as an ED nurse at Hardin, held nursing and transfer-center leadership roles, drove community initiatives, and helped keep complex care local. OhioHealth will soon search for his replacement.

Quality & Recognition
OhioHealth Marion General earns elite 5-star Forbes rating
OhioHealth Marion General Hospital landed a 5-star overall rating on the inaugural Forbes Top Hospitals 2026 list, one of only 259 out of ~5,400 eligible U.S. general acute care hospitals. The ranking heavily weights clinical outcomes (mortality, survival, infections, readmissions), best practices, value, and patient experience. Leaders credit the team’s daily commitment and community investment.
